E-Bikes Just Keep Getting Stranger and Stranger
Check out this funky electric bike I came across downtown last week.
Lafree E-bike

Also, I was watching Ripley's Believe it or Not last night and saw some guy named Roger something or other who built a double decker, twenty one seat tricycle. I've been looking for it online but have been unsuccessful thus far. Anybody else see it? Can you direct me to the guy's site? He also built a 55 seat bike for his family reunion, that was pretty cool!

By the way, they really, really, really need to think about how they play up the big ticket events for the show. The chick they've got doing it now is gorgeous but has a really aggravating way of talking sometimes. That and trying to maintain people for an hour long show (I think its an hour) for one little stunt at the end by showing the same tape again and again just doesn't work.

But they did solve an age old question of mine. What would happen if you dropped the world's biggest rubber band ball from an airplace 6000 feet up? You might think it would bounce a mile. But you'd be wrong. It cratered, broke apart and spread itself over a couple of hundred feet. The bands were still snapping inside the carcass by the time they got to it. Kind of cool but certainly not cool enough to wait an hour to see. Oh yeah, and the dude on the stilts (60 feet long stilts), that was, sadly, a huge yawn and overly dramatic. They kept talking about how he'd die if he lost his balance but I caught sight of the ropes several times. He might fall, he might hurt himself but the safety ropes would save him.

Additions to the Site
I just joined NorCal Bikers with the MTB Blog Ring as evinced by that cool, tie dyed linkee pic down there on the left.
Not sure how useful it'll be but hey, why not?
More bikers is more better, right? By the way, Shitshifter is already linked to Chris' HeadAngle. Kind of cool, we've got our own star on NorCal Bikers!

Although I've been all over my cruiser lately and not spending enough saddle time on my Ibis. But that'll change once we get fully settled into the new house.

Oh yeah and the rains go away again. Looks like we're all in for a wet and wild weekend. Oh boy!

Great Frame on Ebay
Because I'm a total freak, I surf Ebay regularly for Ibis brand stuff. Today I came across an auction for an Ibis Mojo 15.5" frame that ends, sadly, in a day. It would be perfect for a shorter someone or a lady who wants to ride.
I'm going to try and get my neighbor to buy it if I can get ahold of her.

There's also an Ibis Szazbo full bike on there as well. But with a Buy it Now price of $1750, I think I'll be passing on this one.

Keith and I got out for a nice ride in Auburn on Sunday morning. This was my first time back on the bike in about a month, due to a new addition to our family! Baby Lex is doing great by the way. The weather was beautiful and the trails were in good shape. We've had such a mild winter it's amazing. We rode Stagecoagh/Manzanita/Clementine/Culvert/Confluence. I was contemplating a dip down into the moto park, but I know I would have been in major pain pedaling back out. Keith and I attempted the creek crossing on Mossy Rock, and we both were about 1/4 crank turn shy of making it. Next time for sure! On the way down Confluence there's a small jump you can launch over a ravine, or you can just take the trail around it. Yesterday I noticed someone had built up a new launch pad further down which now makes a good 12-15' gap jump. It looks sick, and someone had obviously done it as there were skids & runout tracks up into the grass on the other side. I'd really like to watch someone hit that at high speed. Overall a beautiful sunny day around 68 degrees, and I my legs feel really good today!

LETTERS NEEDED - Eagle Mountain Recreational Area

This is from John over at BONC Please help out and show your support.

The State of California is trying to acquire lands on and near the now-defunct Eagle Mountain resort near Yuba Gap for public recreational uses. Mountain bikers have used trails in the area for years. We need your help in keeping these trails available to bicyclists.

BACKGROUND: State Parks has funding to purchase approximately 1,500 acres near Eagle Mountain for a new recreational area. Currently, one of the major landowners in the area (PG&E) is not a willing seller, but this could change at any time. State agencies have planned an expanded Sno-Park for the area, but need the support of those of us who would use the area for summer recreation as well. Trails in the area are fantastic!

It is important that cyclists express our support for continued trail access in the area. You can do this by mailing the following letter to the addresses provided. Feel free to reword it. With your help, Eagle Mountain can continue to be a sweet destination for bikers seeking classic Sierra singletrack:

To whom it may concern:

As a mountain biker, I support efforts by the State of California to create a multi-use recreational area near Eagle Mountain near Yuba Gap.

As you may know, mountain bikers have used trails in the area for years. Cycling advocacy organizations are eager to partner with state land management agencies to create and maintain trails in the area through volunteer efforts. Historically, area bicycle groups have demonstrated an excellent record of trail work in the nearby Grouse Ridge and Donner Summit areas. Such efforts have help solve erosion problems and kept trails safe for all trail users.

Please support the creation of a public recreational area near Eagle Mountain. Mountain bikers and the public at large would enjoy considerable benefits from such an area.

Truly,
