Aside from knocking my beloved 650, this review, Memorable MC Suzuki DL 1000 V-Strom, is a pretty good read.
The key part of the article discusses how much of a solid all-around bike the V-Strom is. The writer calls it his 85% Suzuki, 85% as good as a hyper sportbike, touring, back road burner and scooter. I'd add that its an outstanding commute bike as well.
In my 650's defense, it goes plenty fast, has a wonderful engine and I don't have much need for the extra 350 cc's as I don't often ride two up or load it down with lots of gear.
